Château de Saint-Germain is a medieval castle ruin located on a rocky hill above Montjovet in Italy’s Aosta Valley.

Built between the 11th and 12th centuries by the noble De Mongioveto family, it occupied a strategic position overlooking the Dora Baltea Valley and the important routes that passed through it. Over the centuries, the castle passed between the Montjovet family, the House of Savoy, and the Challant family.

It served as both a military stronghold and an administrative center, and was later adapted to accommodate artillery before eventually losing its importance. In 1661, its garrison was transferred to the nearby Fort of Bard, and the castle gradually fell into ruin. Today, the remains of its imposing tower and walls still dominate the landscape, making the site an important symbol of the region’s medieval history.
