Verified Cheekwood

Nashville, Tennessee, United States

Cheekwood in Nashville, Tennessee, is a historic 55-acre estate developed between 1929 and 1932 by Leslie Cheek Sr. and his wife Mabel Wood Cheek, inspired by grand English country estates and designed by prominent landscape architect Bryant Fleming.

The limestone Georgian Revival mansion and formal terraced gardens include features such as a boxwood garden, reflecting pool, wisteria arbor, and various themed garden spaces like a Japanese garden and literary garden. The estate blends architectural elegance with natural landscapes, enhancing scenic views of the rolling countryside and nearby Percy Warner Park.

After Leslie Cheek's death shortly after completion, Mabel and their daughter Huldah Cheek Sharp continued to care for the property, later opening it to the public in 1960 as a botanical garden and art museum. The estate retains a strong cultural legacy, hosting art exhibitions, concerts connected to the Nashville Symphony, and ongoing restoration projects that honor its history and design.
