Christinegård
Norway, Norway
Christinegård is a historic manor house and former pleasure estate in Sandviken, Bergen, Norway, perched on a hillside overlooking Byfjorden with roots tracing to 1694 when wealthy widow Christine Caspersdatter Middeltorp leased the land to build a retreat also known as Stineplassen. Rebuilt around 1763 by Modesta Hansdatter Formann and extensively remodeled in the 1830s by merchant Michael Djurhus Prahl into its current form, it features a French garden and the Greek temple pavilion Mon Plaisir, serving as a summer escape for Bergen's elite amid the area's 18th-19th century lystgårder tradition. Protected since 1927, it housed the bishop of Bjørgvin from 1934-1958, archaeologist Asbjørn Herteig from 1960, and now operates as Galleri Christinegaard for events and exhibitions while preserving its nostalgic grandeur.
