Cleveland Botanical Garden is a 10‑acre urban oasis in the University Circle neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, operated as part of Holden Forests & Gardens.

Founded in 1930 as the Garden Center of Greater Cleveland, it evolved into a full botanical garden and moved to its current site on East Boulevard, built partly on the grounds of the old Cleveland Zoo.

The garden features a mix of formal and naturalistic outdoor spaces, including a rose garden, Japanese garden, children’s garden, and woodland plots, all surrounding the 18,000‑square‑foot Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse, which houses the spiny desert of Madagascar and the butterfly‑filled cloud forest of Costa Rica. 

It serves as both a public horticultural museum and an educational hub, open year‑round with changing displays, classes, and events that draw visitors looking for a green escape in the city.
