Conejo Valley Botanic Garden
Thousand Oaks, California, United States
The Conejo Valley Botanic Garden in Thousand Oaks, California, was established in 1973 when the nonprofit organization securing a 50-year lease on a 33-acre hillside site began developing the garden as a community project.
It features 15 hillside specialty gardens including native California plants, Mediterranean species, Australian, Chilean, and South African plants, and a children's adventure garden added in 2003.
The garden serves as a teaching laboratory for understanding what plants thrive in the Mediterranean climate of the Conejo Valley and offers walking trails that connect to various scenic overlooks with panoramic views of the surrounding area. It also includes a bird habitat aimed at providing food and shelter for local wildlife and a rare fruit orchard cultivated with over 130 fruit tree varieties from around the world.
Operated entirely by volunteers and funded by donations, the garden is open daily with free admission, emphasizing conservation, education, and community engagement.
