Verified Cox Arboretum MetroPark

Ohio, United States

Cox Arboretum MetroPark in Ohio originated from a 169-acre farm purchased by James M. Cox Jr. in 1952, who later deeded it to a nonprofit foundation in 1962 with the vision of creating a living museum to engage the community with nature.

Over time, the arboretum evolved through a public-private partnership with Five Rivers MetroParks, expanding to nearly 190 acres of woodlands, prairies, gardens, and water features. The facility includes specialty gardens such as the Iris Garden, Peony Memorial Garden, and the Barbara Cox Center for Sustainable Horticulture, alongside educational centers, outdoor classrooms, and trails accessible to all visitors.

Renowned landscape architects contributed master plans guiding its development, which emphasized ecological stewardship and horticultural education.

Today, Cox Arboretum MetroPark hosts year-round events, classes, and exhibits to teach sustainable gardening and conservation, welcoming more than 650,000 visitors annually to its peaceful mix of mature forests, carefully curated gardens, and natural habitats.
