Cyclopean masonry at Vasakamut in Armenia is a type of ancient defensive construction made from extremely large, irregular stone boulders that are roughly fitted together without mortar, resembling the “Cyclopean” style known from Mycenaean Greece but built by local cultures in the Armenian Highlands during the Bronze and Iron Ages.

Vasakamut itself is a hillfort or fortified settlement site in Armenia where such massive stone walls and fortress fragments survive, forming sturdy, almost impenetrable barriers that once protected the inhabitants and controlled the surrounding territory. The term “Cyclopean” comes from the ancient belief that only mythical giants called Cyclopes could have moved and placed such huge blocks, and in Vasakamut these blocks are piled in thick defensive enclosures that follow the natural contours of the hill, often with strategic entrances and watch points that exploit steep slopes for additional protection.

Today, the Vasakamut Cyclopean masonry stands as a visibly impressive but partially ruined monument, offering visitors a clear example of early Armenian fortress architecture, an insight into Bronze–Iron Age military construction techniques, and a dramatic landscape setting where the scale of the stones and the height of the surviving walls emphasize the strength and ingenuity of the people who built it.
