Dalburg
Dalberg, Germany, Germany
Dalburg, also known as Burg Dalberg, is a large 12th-century ruined hill castle overlooking the village of Dalberg in Germany's Bad Kreuznach district, Rhineland-Palatinate, situated on a mountain ridge above the Gräfenbach valley.
Built between 1150 and 1170 by Godebold von Weyersbach (or Weierbach) of the Ritter family as their ancestral seat after receiving the fief from Speyer's bishop, it became the origin of the prominent Dalberg noble family known for politicians, scientists, and bishops.
Never destroyed by war, the ganerbenburg (joint heirs' castle) expanded over centuries until abandonment in the mid-18th century, later quarried in the 19th century, leaving well-preserved outer walls, building ruins, bergfried, and wohnturm remnants.
