Data Darbar in Lahore is South Asia’s largest and most revered Sufi shrine, built to honor the 11th-century mystic and scholar Hazrat Ali Hujwiri, also known as Data Ganj Bakhsh. Nestled in the heart of the old city, this spiritual complex is not just a mausoleum—it’s a living symbol of Lahore’s soul. Originally a modest grave beside a mosque built by Hujwiri himself, the site evolved over centuries into a sprawling marble sanctuary.

It now includes a mosque, educational institutions, a library, and a langar khana (free kitchen) that feeds tens of thousands daily—a tradition rooted in Sufi values of compassion and equality. The shrine’s spiritual magnetism draws millions of devotees each year, especially during the annual urs festival, when the air fills with qawwali music, incense, and prayer.

It’s a place where the rich and poor, the devout and the curious, all gather in search of solace, blessings, or simply a moment of peace.
