Doria Castle
Italy, Italy
Doria Castle, commonly known as Castello Doria, is a medieval fortress overlooking the picturesque village of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre region of Liguria, Italy.
Its earliest defensive structures date back to around the 11th century, and the castle was expanded over the centuries to protect the coast from pirate raids and rival maritime powers. The castle’s most recognizable feature is its cylindrical watchtower, which stands on a rocky promontory above the harbor and offers sweeping views of the Ligurian coastline and the colorful village below.
Although only parts of the original fortification survive, the castle remains one of Vernazza’s most iconic landmarks and an important symbol of the area's medieval history.
