Ehemaliges Rio-Reiser-Haus
Stadum, Germany, Germany
Ehemaliges Rio-Reiser-Haus in Fresenhagen, part of Stadum municipality in Nordfriesland, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, is a 250-year-old thatched farmhouse where musician Rio Reiser (born Ralf Möbius) and his band Ton Steine Scherben retreated in the mid-1970s to form the "Freie Republik Fresenhagen" commune.
Here, Reiser wrote iconic German rock songs like "König von Deutschland," hosted fellow artists, and lived until his death on August 20, 1996, at age 46, initially buried on the property. After his passing, his brothers Gert and Peter Möbius ran it as a cultural center with concerts, exhibitions, and workshops until financial woes led to a failed 2011 auction and a successful 2014 sale for 180,000 euros to a private buyer, ending its public music legacy.
