It originally opened in 1956 as The Enchanted Forest of the Adirondacks, created by A. Richard Cohen who designed it with fairy tale-themed attractions inspired by nursery rhymes and children's stories.

The park started with a train ride as its main attraction, gradually expanding to include many amusement rides, and in the 1980s and 1990s it evolved into a water park with over 50 rides and attractions including heated water rides, tube rides, waterslides, kiddie play areas, and family rides. It also offers live entertainment, shops, food outlets, and a family circus show.
