Esfandagheh (also spelled Esfandaqeh or Esfandagheh-Abdasht) is a district in the western part of Jiroft County, in Kerman Province, southeastern Iran, centered on the village of Dowlatabad, which serves as the administrative capital of Esfandaqeh District.

The area is known for its relatively dry, semi-warm, and temperate climate, with stable weather conditions and many sunny days throughout the year, making it one of the sunniest parts of Iran and well suited for solar energy projects. In addition to its agricultural and rural character, with 52 villages spread across the rural district and a population of several thousand people.

Esfandagheh is a major center for chromite mining, as it contains the Sikhuran ophiolite complex and the Esfandagheh Chromium Mine, which together make the region Iran’s second-largest chromite producer after the Faryab complex in southern Iran. The Sikhuran area’s rock formations include harzburgite, dunite, pyroxenite, and gabbro, and the chromite mined here is used in stainless‑steel production, refractory materials.

Alloy manufacturing, while recent studies have also detected trace amounts of valuable metals such as palladium, platinum, and rhodium in these rocks. Together, Esfandagheh’s natural resources, particularly its mineral deposits and abundant solar radiation, combine with its rural landscape and agricultural base to define it as both a mining region and a promising area for renewable energy development in Kerman Province.
