Eutin Castle
Eutin, Germany, Germany
Eutin Castle is a prominent four-winged Baroque palace in Eutin, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, originally built as a 12th-century medieval fortress by the Prince-Bishops of Lübeck to assert independence from the city.
Transformed over centuries with Renaissance and Baroque additions, including major remodeling in 1717 by architect Rudolph Matthias Dallin under Prince-Bishop Christian August, it features a red-brick facade, gate tower, octagonal corner towers, and elegant interiors with preserved salons, a chapel, and museum exhibits on courtly life from late Baroque to Neoclassical eras.
Later serving as a summer residence for the Dukes of Oldenburg, it now belongs to a family foundation of the House of Oldenburg and hosts cultural events like the Eutin Festival amid its English landscape park by Lake Eutin.
