Exotenwald Weinheim
Weinheim, Germany, Germany
Exotenwald Weinheim is a 60‑hectare forest arboretum in Weinheim, Baden‑Württemberg, Germany, located directly beside the town’s Schlosspark and forming part of the “Green Mile” of parks and gardens in the city.
Founded in 1872 by the local nobleman Christian Friedrich Gustav von Berckheim, it was created to grow a wide range of exotic tree species from North America, Asia, and South America, including towering coast redwoods (Mammutbäume), chilean araucaria, Japanese and North American magnolias, and California river cedars, and it now holds about 170 different foreign tree and shrub species planted in whole stands rather than as single specimens.
The area functions as a public woodland and open‑air tree museum, with three marked circular walking paths (ranging from about 2.4 to 4.4 kilometers) that wind through the different plantings, and it is open year‑round, free of charge and accessible at any time, often used by local residents and visitors for quiet walks, botany‑focused outings, and guided tours offered seasonally.
