Verified FAI - Castello di Avio

Italy, Italy

FAI Castello di Avio is one of the oldest and most impressive medieval castles in Trentino, perched on a hill overlooking the Vallagarina and the Adige Valley.

First documented in 1053, it served for centuries as a strategic fortress controlling an important route between northern and southern Europe. The castle is renowned for its imposing towers, crenellated walls, and remarkable 14th-century frescoes, including the famous “Chamber of Love,” which depicts scenes of courtly romance, and other rooms decorated with medieval battle imagery.

Today, the castle is owned and managed by the FAI (Italian National Trust), which has carefully restored and preserved it. Surrounded by vineyards and beautiful mountain scenery, it offers visitors a fascinating combination of history, art, architecture, and panoramic views.
