Forte a Mare is a historic coastal fortress complex located at the entrance to the harbor of Brindisi in Puglia.

Built on a small island in a strategically important position, it was developed over several centuries to protect the port and control maritime access to the city. The complex is best known for the imposing Castello Alfonsino, which was expanded by Aragonese and later rulers to strengthen Brindisi’s defenses.

Designed to withstand attacks from both sea and land, the fortress features massive walls, bastions, and military structures that reflect the evolution of coastal defense architecture. Its location made it one of the most important defensive strongholds along the Adriatic coast. Today, Forte a Mare is a major historical landmark and cultural attraction.
