The Fortress of Civitella del Tronto is a massive hilltop fortress in the Abruzzo region and is considered one of the largest and most impressive military fortifications in Italy.

Built and expanded over many centuries, especially under Spanish rule in the 16th century, it was designed to defend the border between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal States. The fortress played a key role in several historic sieges and is particularly famous for being the last stronghold of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, surrendering in March 1861 during the unification of Italy.

Today, the restored complex is a major tourist attraction, featuring museums, historic buildings, defensive walls, and spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. It stands as an outstanding example of military architecture and an important symbol of Italian history.
