Friedewald Castle is a late Renaissance moated castle ruin in the small municipality of Friedewald, eastern Hesse, Germany, east of Bad Hersfeld.
Built around 1580 by Count Heinrich IV zu Sayn to replace an earlier abbot's fortress from 1312, it features four corner towers, a courtyard façade, and served as a Landgrave hunting lodge until destroyed in 1762 during the Seven Years' War.
The site includes a 16th-century Baroque fountain, Vogthaus conference center, Marstall town hall and museum, and a 5-hectare English-style park with exotic trees like sequoias, open daily for visits amid scenic hiking trails.
