Frogner Manor
Oslo, Norway, Norway
Frogner Manor is a historic 18th-century estate house located in the southern part of Frogner Park in Oslo, Norway. Originally one of the largest agricultural properties in the Oslo area, it dates back to medieval times when it was owned by Hovedøya Abbey before being confiscated by the Crown in 1536.
In 1750, timber merchant Hans Jacob Scheel built the initial structure, later expanded by Norway's richest man, Bernt Anker, in 1790, turning it into a social hub for the elite with lavish interiors like his ballroom from the 1790s.
The manor passed through various wealthy owners until Oslo's municipality purchased it in 1896 for urban expansion, though economic setbacks preserved it; today, it houses the Oslo City Museum, showcasing 1750-1900 period rooms, portraits, and historical photos of old Christiania.
