Furg Citadel, located in Furg Village in South Khorasan Province, Iran, is an 18th-century fortress built during the Afsharid era by Mirza Bagha Khan and completed by his son Mirza Rafi Khan.
Positioned on a mountain at about 1,840 meters altitude overlooking the Darmian Valley, it consists of three main sections including living quarters, military barracks, storage areas, and fortified walls with numerous towers. The citadel includes defensive features such as underground tunnels used for escape and water supply, and it served as a military checkpoint through the Qajar and early Pahlavi periods.
Recognized for its strategic location and architectural complexity, Furg Citadel is registered as a national heritage site and remains an important example of Iranian historical fortifications.
