Gaugrehweiler
Germany, Germany
Gaugrehweiler is a small municipality in the Donnersbergkreis district of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, located in the Münstertal valley within the North Palatinate Uplands, between Kaiserslautern and Bad Kreuznach.
The Appelbach river flows through the village, which includes the settlements of Gutenbacherhof and Leiningerhof, and its name derives from Middle High German terms meaning "the count's settlement." First mentioned in 1401 as part of the Mainz archdiocese, it has a history tied to French, Austrian, Bavarian, and post-WWII French occupation rule.
With remnants of a once-grand castle—built at great expense in the past—still visible in the town center amid traditional half-timbered houses along the main street. Surrounded by fields and meadows, the quaint village offers local amenities like a bakery, pharmacy, and bank, and had around 505 residents as of 2022.
