Gedenkstein Schloss Gronau
Rödersheim-Gronau, Germany, Germany
Gedenkstein Schloss Gronau refers to a memorial stone or remnant associated with the former Schloss Gronau (Gronau Castle), a moated castle first mentioned in the 14th century in Gronau, Germany, likely built by the Lords of Frankenstein and rebuilt in 1525 and 1795 before its demolition from 1798 to 1830.
Destroyed in 1795 during a skirmish between Austrian and French forces near Lambsheim, the site's last traces, including a Renaissance sandstone chimney mantel now preserved in a museum, were removed in 1964 for urban renewal.
Today, no visible castle ruins remain in Rödersheim-Gronau, but the site evokes the history of this lost noble residence in Rhineland-Palatinate.
