Gersdorfer Burg
Quedlinburg, Germany, Germany
Gersdorfer Burg is a medieval castle site and district two kilometers south of Quedlinburg in Germany's Harz region, first established in the early 12th century—possibly as early as the 10th—as a noble or county stronghold linked to figures like Count Thietmar, father of Margrave Gero.
Documented from 1155 as a Quedlinburg Abbey fief under lords like Buchardus de Gersthorp, it saw renewals in 1303 by the Counts of Hadmersleben, destruction in 1337 or 1349 amid feuds with the Halberstadt bishop and Regensteins, and rebuilding by 1369 before multiple ownership shifts.
Spanning 130 by 100 meters with a main and outer bailey, it was converted into a farm estate around 1755-1756, demolishing most structures except a surviving bergfried tower, now featuring preserved farm buildings amid its historic rural setting.
