Giardino Botanico Carsiana
Italy, Italy
Giardino Botanico Carsiana is a small botanical garden in Sgonico, about 18 kilometers from Trieste, set inside a natural sinkhole on the Karst plateau.
It was created in 1964 to collect, protect, and explain the native plants and landscapes of the Karst region, and it now shows roughly 600 local species in about 5,000 to 6,000 square meters. The garden is designed like a miniature version of the local terrain, so visitors can see the area’s rocky landforms and plant communities in one place.
