Giardino Botanico Michele Tenore
Lama dei Peligni, Italy, Italy
Giardino Botanico Michele Tenore is a botanical garden in Lama dei Peligni, in Abruzzo’s Province of Chieti, inside the Majella National Park.
It was founded in 1995 and named after the botanist Michele Tenore, with the goal of protecting and showcasing native mountain plants from the Majella and the central Apennines. The garden covers about 9,000 square meters and contains around 500 plant species arranged in educational sections that recreate different natural habitats of the Majella.
It is especially important for conservation because it helps preserve rare and threatened local flora, including the Majella cornflower, and it is connected to a germplasm bank used for ex situ plant conservation.
