Giardino Botanico Valderia
Italy, Italy
Giardino Botanico Valderia is an alpine botanical garden and nature reserve in Terme di Valdieri, in Piedmont’s Maritime Alps.
It was restored in 1990 and now showcases about 500 plant species arranged in 14 habitats that represent the local mountain ecosystems, such as rocky slopes, woods, meadows, bogs, and streamside areas. The garden takes its name from the rare Viola valderia, first identified by botanist Carlo Allioni, and it is valued for both conservation and environmental education. It is usually open in summer, making it a good place to see the biodiversity of the Maritime Alps in a compact, well-organized setting.
