Glücksburg Castle
Glücksburg, Germany, Germany
Glücksburg Castle is a Renaissance water castle in Glücksburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, built between 1582 and 1587 by Duke Johann the Younger on the site of a former Cistercian monastery, using its bricks and granite base rising 2.5 meters from an artificial lake on the Flensburg Fjord.
The square 30x30-meter structure features three gabled houses, octagonal corner towers, and interiors with stucco ceilings from the Thirty Years' War era, serving as the ancestral seat of the House of Glücksburg, which produced kings for Denmark, Greece, and Norway. Today it operates as a museum showcasing ducal history and art, largely unchanged externally for over 400 years.
