Gohlis Palace
Leipzig, Germany, Germany
Gohlis Palace, known as Gohliser Schlösschen, is a charming Rococo summer residence built in 1755-1756 in Leipzig's Gohlis district, Germany, commissioned by wealthy merchant and city architect Johann Caspar Richter on land from his wife's farms.
This well-preserved exemplar of Saxon late Baroque architecture features elegant interiors, orangery wings, and a design possibly by Friedrich Seltendorff influenced by Dresden styles, with completion delayed by Seven Years' War taxes until after Richter's 1770 death.
Bequeathed to Leipzig in 1793, it served as a military hospital in 1813, passed to the von Alvensleben family and later merchants, before city reacquisition in 1906 and full restoration by 1998, now hosting concerts, exhibitions, weddings, and a café as the last surviving Baroque bourgeois estate near Leipzig's center.
