Governor's House
Lahore, Pakistan, Pakistan
Governor's House in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, is the official residence and office of the Governor of Punjab, situated along Mall Road in the heart of Lahore, the capital and political center of Punjab province.
The estate spans 700 kanals (approximately 71.5 to 87.5 acres) and features Victorian and Edwardian architectural elements, including multiple halls, detailed ceilings, and lush gardens with a lake and small hill. Originally constructed around 1851 during British colonial rule, the property was purchased by British authorities for 2,500 rupees after Punjab's annexation from the Sikh Empire and served as the residence of the British Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab.
Some sources indicate the building may have originated as an early 17th-century Mughal tomb of nobleman Qasim Khan Mir Bahr, which was later occupied by Sikh soldiers and then transformed into an Edwardian mansion by British officials over generations. Following Pakistan's independence in 1947, the building was formally redesignated as the official residence of Punjab's Governor, and it continues to serve this ceremonial and administrative role today while also accommodating the President of Pakistan, Prime Minister, state guests, and foreign dignitaries.
