Verified Greensboro Arboretum

Greensboro, North Carolina, United States

The Greensboro Arboretum in Greensboro, North Carolina, covers 17 acres within Lindley Park and began as a joint project between the Greensboro Beautiful organization and the city's Parks and Recreation Department to provide a public plant collection for education and enjoyment.

Opened to the public in 1991, the arboretum features 14 distinct plant collections, including a butterfly garden, conifer collections with over 80 dwarf species, holly and hosta gardens, a rose garden, perennial board, wildflower trail, and a winter garden collection.

Designed by landscape architect Robert McDuffie with input from local horticulturists and universities, the arboretum showcases hardy plants suitable for the Piedmont region of North Carolina and takes advantage of the natural topography from rocky slopes to meadows. It offers paved walkways and grassy areas that allow visitors to get close to labeled plant specimens, making it a living laboratory and a picturesque space for family recreation, education, and nature appreciation.

Several garden areas have been added over the years to enhance its role in public education and provide habitat for wildlife, reinforcing its status as a treasured community resource.
