Grotteria is a historic town in Calabria, Italy, with roots dating back to between the 8th and 9th centuries BC when it featured a temple dedicated to the goddess Minerva.

Over centuries, it experienced various influences including Locrian, Byzantine, and Norman, and became an independent lordship in the 12th century. The town was affected by earthquakes and was ruled by several noble families such as the Ruffo and Caracciolo.

Its landmarks include Palazzo Lupis, a 14th-century noble residence with a 17th-century portal and an ancient library, the Church of the Assumption with Byzantine art, and the medieval castle ruins. Grotteria hosts significant religious festivals like the Feast of the Santissimo Crocifisso, a deeply rooted community event.
