Grubenhagen Castle
Vollrathsruhe, Germany, Germany
Grubenhagen Castle in Vollrathsruhe, Germany, is a 13th-century lowland ruin built by the von Grube family as vassals of the Princes of Werle, featuring a circular inner ward, rectangular outer bailey, and a 10-meter-high bergfried tower remnant with 3.3-meter-thick fieldstone and brick walls surrounded by a preserved water-filled moat.
Extended until the 15th century, it later belonged to the von Maltzan family, who constructed a separate northern estate that superseded the castle as their manor house by the 19th century. Today the site reveals its geological base and structural traces as a protected historical monument near Mecklenburgische Seenplatte.
