Gusanagyugh Fortress
Armenia, Armenia
Gusanagyugh Fortress is a small ruined medieval castle located in the village of Gusanagyugh in the Shirak Province of Armenia, near Gyumri and the Shirak International Airport.
The site is largely in ruins, with travelers noting that only two tall walls and two circular areas remain visible, and the tallest wall may be close to 20 feet (about 6 meters) high. From the main road passing through Gusanagyugh, the fortress can be seen easily, and visitors can make a very short climb to reach the ruins, which are described as being relatively well maintained with little litter or trash.
While there is limited public historical detail about the fortress’s exact date and builders, it is understood to be part of the broader network of medieval fortifications in the region and is often included as a quick stop on cultural and heritage tours in Shirak, especially when traveling between Gyumri and other sites in the area.
