Gut Brodau
Schashagen, Germany, Germany
Gut Brodau is a historic manor estate in Schashagen, Ostholstein, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, first documented in 1592 as a large agricultural district encompassing villages like Albersdorf, Hermannshof, Schashagen, Beusloe, and Logeberg, established in 1526 by Heinrich Rantzau on former Helmstorf land.
Previously tied to Lübeck churches such as St. Clemens Kaland from 1528, it formed part of the Amtsbezirk Brodau in 1867 alongside Gut Hasselburg, with key features including an old manor house, gatehouse (Torhaus), and the iconic Brodauer Windmühle—a gallery Dutchman built in 1864 that burned down in 2005 and symbolizes the local coat of arms with a white lily for Saint Gertrud.
One of the area's largest farms today at around 4,000 hectares, it reflects centuries of Slavic, monastic, and noble land use amid the Baltic coast's rural landscape.
