Gut Buckhagen
Rabel, Germany, Germany
Gut Buckhagen is a historic manor estate in the village of Rabel near Kappeln, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, originating in the early 14th century on a forest clearing between Kappeln and Gelting with early ownership by Ritter Sievert Sehestedt.
It passed through noble families like Pogwisch, von Rumohr, and von Ahlefeldt before Danish King Frederick I acquired it in 1529, later bought by Landgrave Carl of Hesse in 1812 and Hamburg merchant Gustav Wilhelm von Schiller in 1863, remaining in the Schiller family for five generations under current owner Alexander von Schiller.
The beige brick Herrenhaus with tower, built around 1660 atop foundations dating to 1231, features a grand hall restored around 2010 housing a 25-meter carved wooden frieze of 18 Nibelungenlied scenes crafted by sculptor Fritz Neuber from 1873 to 1883.
