Gut Grünholz
Thumby, Germany, Germany
Gut Grünholz is a historic aristocratic manor estate in Thumby on the Schwansen peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, first documented in 1463 as a medieval curia or economic farm operated by Schleswig bishops.
Originally featuring a small tower castle built by Hartwig Sehestedt in the 15th century, it passed through noble families like Pogwisch, Ahlefeld, Thienen, Plessen, Buchwaldt, and Moltke before Duke Karl of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg acquired it in 1855, with the current baroque Herrenhaus constructed 1749-1752 amid a moat from the earlier farm complex.
Still actively farmed and privately owned by the ducal Glücksburg line, it includes rebuilt economic buildings after an 1888 fire and occasionally serves as Schloss Grünholz.
