Destroyed by Swedish forces in 1644, it was rebuilt in the 17th century and redesigned in neoclassical style in 1834-35 by Hinrich Gysbert van der Smissen, serving as a noble seat amid Mittelholstein's rural landscapes. Today, the preserved Herrenhaus anchors the village's heritage, linked to figures like Theodor Storm and surrounded by canals, farms, and recreational paths near the Nord-Ostsee-Kanal.
