Gut Ludwigsburg
Waabs, Germany, Germany
Gut Ludwigsburg is a historic aristocratic manor estate in Waabs, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, originating from a 14th-century water castle established by the Sehestedt family as a curia or economic farm known as Kohøved, meaning "cow head" in Danish.
Passing through noble families like Rantzau, Ahlefeld, Kielmansegg, and Temming before Graf Friedrich Ludwig von Dehn acquired it in 1729 and built the current large Baroque Herrenhaus from 1740 amid a moat, it was renamed Ludwigsburg in 1768 during his tenure as royal governor.
Still actively farmed by descendants of the Erbengemeinschaft Carl since 1950, it features preserved outbuildings like a Baroque economic wing and ranks among the grandest manor houses in former Schleswig.
