Gut Pettluis
Daldorf, Germany, Germany
Gut Pettluis in Daldorf, Germany, is an estate with a history dating back to at least the mid-13th century, originally emerging from a Slavic settlement with a name meaning "at the wood."
It is located near the historical border, the Limes Saxoniae, which once separated the Germanic Saxons and Slavic Wends. Over centuries, Pettluis changed ownership multiple times among noble families, including the Rantzau and Brockdorff families. The estate has been important historically for activities like hunting, sheep farming, and peat extraction.
The manor house, constructed in 1839 as a long thatched-roof building, was used mainly as a hunting residence. Pettluis was raised to the status of an aristocratic estate in the mid-19th century and covers around 380 hectares. Since 1992, it has been owned by the Wätjen family. The estate also features historical and cultural significance highlighted by the connection to a pilgrim route and literary references such as Theodor Storm's novella which likely inspire stories about its past.
It sits in the scenic Holstein Switzerland region surrounded by state forest and moorland.
