Gut Saxtorf
Rieseby, Germany, Germany
Gut Saxtorf is a historic aristocratic manor estate in the village of Saxtorf, part of Rieseby municipality on the Schwansen peninsula in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, located south of the Schlei inlet.
First acquired by the Blome family in 1494 after prior ownership by the von Wohnsfleth and von Ahlefeld families, it saw construction of its original Baroque-style main building begin in 1648 under Kay von Ahlefeld, though it burned down in 1847 and was rebuilt by 1852 in neo-Gothic brick design by architect Friedrich Stammann amid a moated setting.
Serfdom ended there in 1799, and today it functions as an active agricultural farm with plans for conversion into a holiday resort on its 11-hectare grounds.
