Gwadar Eastbay Expressway is a 19-kilometer, six-lane municipal expressway in Gwadar, Balochistan, Pakistan, that connects the strategic Gwadar Port to Karachi via the Makran Coastal Highway.
Construction began on November 22, 2017, and the expressway was officially inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on June 3, 2022, after being built over three years at a cost of Rs 32 billion ($162–168 million). The project is a key "Early Harvest" initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and serves as the main artery for Gwadar Port, with the primary objective of providing smooth connectivity between the port, its Free Trade Zone, and Pakistan's national highway network for efficient transportation of import, export, and transit goods.
Before the expressway, port traffic was forced through a narrow 16-foot road in Gwadar town, causing major disruptions, but the new 6-lane expressway now links the port directly to the Makran Coastal Highway (N-10) and Motorway 8, enabling seamless transport to the Khunjerab border with China.
Phase II of the project, approved in 2025, will add a 13.8-kilometer six-lane dual carriageway connecting the New Gwadar International Airport to the existing expressway, further enhancing cargo transportation efficiency. The expressway has created over 2,000 jobs, including 1,700 local jobs, and is part of a wider $1.1 billion development package for Gwadar city and its port.
