Haridok Castle, often identified as Khavidak Castle, is a historic mud-brick fortress located in Khavidak village in Iran’s Yazd Province. Built using traditional adobe and mud construction, the castle served as a defensive refuge for local residents in the desert region and reflects the practical architecture of ancient Persian communities. The fortress is believed to have origins dating back to the Sasanian era (224–651 CE), with later modifications made during the Ilkhanid period. Its thick walls, elevated structure, and enclosed design helped protect villagers from raids and harsh environmental conditions. Today, the castle is recognized as part of Iran’s national heritage and stands as an important example of traditional desert fortifications. Visitors are drawn to its historic atmosphere and its connection to the long history of settlement and architecture in central Iran.
