Haus Palant
Eschweiler, Germany, Germany
Haus Palant in Eschweiler's Weisweiler district, Germany, evolved from a Frankish estate and served as the ancestral seat of the influential Palant noble family from the 14th century, with early records mentioning Reinhard von Palant as a vassal in 1323-1324.
Around 1600, under Floris II. von Palant, it was rebuilt in Dutch Renaissance style as a square moated complex with four corner towers and bridges north and south, later sold to the von Hatzfeld family in 1682 who restored it after 1755 earthquake damage.
Passing through Hompesch-Bolheim and Cockerill families, it was saved from wartime destruction in 1957 and remains privately owned for agriculture, preserving its three-winged quarry stone forecourt with hipped roofs and blue stone facade.
