Heidenschloss (Burg Jagberg)
Beuron, Germany, Germany
Heidenschloss, also known as Burg Jagberg or Neidinger Heidenschloss, near Beuron in Germany's Donautal, is a vanished high medieval spur castle from the early 12th century located on a steep mountainside spur at 758 meters elevation overlooking a side gorge of the Danube Valley.
Built by unknown nobles—possibly the Lords of Ramsberg, as suggested by the nearby Jagberg field—and expanded in the 13th century with large buckelquader blocks, it featured a terraced layout with a rectangular main castle, strong east wall remnants, neck ditch, and forecourt before abandonment around 1300-1350.
Sold in 1446 by the von Ramsberg brothers to Märklin von Hausen, its overgrown traces today attract hikers via trails to the Swabian Alb's remote fortifications amid the Upper Danube Nature Park.
