Hirkan National Park, located in Azerbaijan’s Lankaran Region and extending into the nearby Astara area, is one of the country’s most important natural reserves.
Established in 2004, the park protects the ancient Hyrcanian Forests, a unique ecosystem of lush broadleaf woodlands that dates back millions of years and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its humid subtropical climate, dense forests, and rich biodiversity, the park is home to many rare and endemic plant species, as well as wildlife such as brown bears, lynxes, wolves, wild boars, and numerous bird species.
