Hirschholm Palace
Denmark, Denmark
Hirschholm Palace, also known as Hørsholm Palace, was a grand Baroque royal residence built between 1733 and 1744 in Hørsholm, north of Copenhagen, Denmark, on a site used since medieval times.
Commissioned by King Christian VI for Queen Sophie Magdalene and designed by architect Lauritz de Thurah, it earned fame as the "Versailles of the North" for its opulent design, lavish interiors, and expansive formal gardens.
The palace later gained notoriety due to Queen Caroline Matilda's scandalous affair with Johann Struensee in the 1770s, fell into decline, and was fully demolished between 1809 and 1813, leaving only ruins and foundations visible today.
