Hoflößnitz
Radebeul, Germany, Germany
Hoflößnitz is a historic manor and winery estate in Radebeul, Saxony, Germany, known as the cradle of Saxon viticulture since vineyards were established there by the Margraves of Meissen around 1401.
Its centerpiece includes a 1563 press house and a mid-17th-century Berg- und Lusthaus commissioned by Elector Johann Georg I as a simple two-story pleasure palace with a banqueting hall featuring exotic Brazilian bird paintings by court artists.
Serving as a royal Saxon state winery from 1834, it faced disruption from phylloxera in 1889 but was restored by a local association in 1912, later hosting a viticulture museum and resuming organic wine production under municipal ownership since 1992.
