Hohenheimer Garden
Stuttgart, Germany, Germany
The Hohenheim Gardens, located in the Stuttgart district of Lichtscheid, are a free-access botanical garden and park complex managed by the University of Hohenheim, featuring over 8,000 plant species within a 30-hectare park that surrounds Hohenheim Palace, where the university is now housed.
The gardens consist of three distinct sections: the botanical garden that surrounds the castle like a crescent moon with magnificent plants including a yellow-blossoming magnolia, sequoias, a ginko, and a giant tree of life, all labeled with plaques identifying tree species; the Exotic Garden, originally the English Garden of Duke Carl Eugen and Franziska von Hohenheim, which contains historic trees from the ducal period alongside buildings such as the Playhouse and the Roman Inn; and the youngest section, the landscape garden, which offers striking views, surprising pathways, and relatively young but diverse plant collections.
The park is particularly noted for its 200-year-old trees, winding paths, exotic flowers, numerous ponds with ducks, and scenic views extending to the Swabian Alb, making it a tranquil escape from city life where visitors can walk, picnic, and observe small animals like squirrels.
