Holleby Church
Sarpsborg Municipality, Norway, Norway
Holleby Church in Sarpsborg Municipality, Norway, is a modest wooden long church built in 1919-1920 to designs by architects Aksel and Torvald Bjørnland, seating around 107-150 worshippers with a rectangular nave, straight-ended chancel flanked by sacristies, octagonal ridge turret, and west entrance porch. Originally established as a chapel under Tune Church, it succeeded a much older farm chapel—likely a stave church—documented as ruined by the 1590s per Bishop Jens Nilssøn's report after decades of disuse on the historic Tuneøya site north of Sarpsborg. Surrounded by park-like grounds without a formal cemetery—nearby Gravlunden serves Holleby estate privately—it functions as a local parish church today.
